Class of 2017

Since leaving Churchie, Old Boy Tom Macpherson (2017) has continued to pursue his shared passion for music and acting. At school, Tom exclusively studied art electives, studying Drama, Visual Art, Music & Music Extension in his final year. Since graduating from QUT in 2020, with a Bachelor of Creative Industries, he has collaborated with many musicians around the world and even produced a Radio Show in Japan between 2020 & 2021. In addition, he has spent some time performing both in theatre and on the streets of Movie World, playing various beloved movie characters and returned home last year from a two-month acting stint on a Samoan feature film.

More recently Tom has continued to tap into his acting roots, playing the eclectic Andy Wiseman in the Christmas Mockumentary, Santa Hunters that was recently released on Amazon Prime worldwide. In addition to his acting duties on the film, he also wrote and co-produced the entire soundtrack alongside the producer of the Bluey soundtracks, Marly Lüske and his protégé, Liam Brimble.

Tom will be releasing a limited run of vinyls for the official soundtrack of the film on the 12th of December. In addition to the soundtrack, a Lo-fi variant of the album will be released on all streaming services to pay homage to his character in the films love of the music genre. All of this will be under Tom’s artist name, Galloway.

Tom reflects on his time within Churchie’s arts program and how it helped shape him heading into his career:

“I’d like to thank my core art teachers in my senior years, Paul Kriesch, Vicky Leighton and Scott Andrews, for all the time and effort they put into teaching and supporting me through my artistic pursuits. I’m still using Logic Pro as my sole DAW for music production and I certainly wouldn’t have felt confident going into a degree revolving around producing, if it wasn’t for Paul’s devotion to teaching us the fundamentals. He even got me to like The Beatles a little by the end of 2017.

The time I spent working on my art assignments was probably the most fun I had during class, and I must thank Vicky for creating such a lovely environment for her students to work in. I still use the rainbow guitar to this day, and I even got to show MIKA the guitar in person after his show in Brisbane, which was an unbelievable experience. And lastly, before meeting Scott Andrews I only had an interest in pursuing music, however the fun I had performing in both Grease and Peter Pan under his direction was what got me hooked on acting as well. I only got my composing role in Santa Hunters when filming my scenes for the movie, so your influence managed to help me in both fields! I’m forever grateful for my time in Jensen and Hayward-Midson with you three and I hope you continue to work and inspire a few more Churchie boys to give their creative side a crack.”
