On Saturday, November 5, a special event is being held at Churchie for a very worthy cause – Levi’s Project. Many will recall Levi’s story that we shared in the August 2021 edition of the Viking Spirit.

In 2018, Old Boy Ben Wheeler (1999) and wife Kath tragically lost their eight-year-old son Levi to DIPG. DIPG, or Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma, is a type of brain cancer that affects the central nervous system and has a 0% survival rate. Terminal on diagnosis, children with DIPG typically live for only nine months following this devastating diagnosis.

After Levi’s death, Ben and Kath, along with their other children Olivia and Archie, wanted to make a difference for other children and families living with DIPG. They founded Levi’s Project, a world-leading research program by scientists at Children’s Cancer Institute which aims to find an effective treatment for DIPG.

So far, Levi’s Project has raised over $4m for brain cancer research, and it is funding two clinical trials for kids with brain cancer in Australia this year – Polyamine Depletion Therapy and CAR T-cell therapy. You can find out more at www.levisproject.org

The cricket match pits two mediocre teams comprising Churchie Old Boys ’99 vs ’01 – against each other to raise much-needed funds. Come along to Churchie’s Main Oval from 10am to 5pm on Saturday 5 November and watch the cricket, listen to live music, enjoy great food and beverages. Try your luck with over $6K in raffle prizes and keep the kids entertained with an obstacle course from The Jungle Adventure Play and other activities.
