The recent passing of Old Boy Graham Radcliffe (1952) has brought to our attention the wonderful legacy he leaves of his inspiring work as a professional sculptor.

Brisbane born in 1934, Graham was a professional sculptor for almost 30 years. Living in Italy for over six years he was able to source a range of unusual marble and onyx. Blending his distinctive style with these exotic stones Graham built up a large collection of sculptures and in so doing created the Phoenix Sculpture Garden and Art Gallery at his home. The two-hectare rainforest garden is located on the peak of Mount Glorious in south-east Queensland and has sweeping views over Moreton Bay and Stradbroke Island.

Privately owned and funded, the Phoenix Sculpture Garden has been open to the public since 1995. With the creation of this garden, Graham and his wife Margit fulfilled a vision of Graham’s in which the combination of the beauty of nature and his life’s work of sculptures and paintings create an ambiance where peace becomes reality. There are over 100 marble and bronze indoor and outdoor sculptures permanently on display. The largest is Phoenix Germania which Graham created to commemorate the reunification of Germany. This work is four metres high and gives the garden its name.

The Phoenix Sculpture Garden is located at 59 Fahey Road, Mount Glorious, and is open to the public every Sunday from 10am to 4pm and by appointment. When you visit, please make yourself known to Margit as member of the Churchie community.
