Old Boy News |
On Eagles Wings still resonates strongly with Old Boy Mark McMurtrie from his RAAF cadet days with the Churchie 203 squadron. The values instilled during Mark's years at Churchie have helped him thrive after graduating in 2003. From early accomplishments, incorporating an electrical company at the age of 18 while studying a Bachelor of Pharmacy and completing his Commercial Pilot's Licence, Mark now owns River Heads Pharmacy on the Fraser Coast. He flies his own Piper Arrow aircraft with close to 20 years and 500 flight hours in the skies.
In November of 2021 Mark founded the not-for-profit charity Community Flights after hearing the ever-growing struggles of his pharmacy patients traveling to Brisbane for specialist appointments. After considerable self-funded efforts and setup, the inaugural flight took to the skies from Hervey Bay on the 26th of May 2022. The charity's mission is to "close the gap to healthcare access" by providing cost-free flights for regional and remote Queenslanders suffering the emotional and financial burden of ongoing long-distance medical travel.
Community Flights is seeking sponsors and support to help keep the aircraft flying as they currently have no federal or state funding to bring this service to the community. Should you wish to contribute, please click here for details.
