Old Boy News

Theatresports is improvised theatre played as a spectator sport and is a fun way for students to gain valuable improvisation experience and stage confidence. Students participate in workshops and work with a coach to develop their ability to follow the rules of each game, deliver a cohesive story line and entertain an audience.

At the beginning of Term 2, selected students in Years 8-12 are placed in competition teams to participate in the Churchie Theatresports Competition, with the winning teams gaining a place in the Youth Theatresports Inter-school Competition. Held in terms 2 and 3, this is where they compete against Brisbane school teams.

Each year it is tremendously heartening to have Churchie Old Boys come back to train Junior and Senior Theatresports Competition teams. It is their way of giving back to the program and their enthusiasm and willingness to impart their knowledge on current students is welcomed. Each coach achieved high success when they were in the program at school and is highly regarded for the first hand experience they bring. Indeed it is their contribution that has been and continues to be pivotal to the program’s success in recent years. This year the following Old Boys have been coaching. Additionally, on the judging panel were Old Boys Henry Friend (2016) and Lachlan Moffatt (2019).

Below are photos of each of the Old Boy coaches with their teams.

Charlton Lee Jones (2021) – Grand final participant over several years

Mac Trimmer (2021) – Grand final participant over several years

Chris Leotta (2017) – Longest serving Old Boy coach (5 years)
