Class of 1980 |
For over 25 years, Old Boy and Regional Economist Colin Dwyer (1980) was the Chief Economist for DS Economics in Townsville. Throughout his career, Colin has been successful in assisting many Regional Queensland organisations and a variety of small-to-medium enterprises. Colin’s career has also included academic researching and teaching at James Cook University as well as Director of Research and Consulting with Colliers International Townsville. Colin is also the Chairman of Charity, Flourishing Women, whose prime goal is to train gynaecologists in developing countries to help disadvantaged women.
Recently appointed an Adjunct Professor at James Cook University in the College of Law, Business and Governance, Colin says: “I am very pleased to accept this new role and excited to be collaborating again with my Alma Mater James Cook University. I accepted the Professorship as recognition of my contribution to regional economics, regional Queensland and to continue communicating the important role regional economics plays in our lives. I look forward to collaborating with the team at James Cook University, journalists, regional businesses, public entities and importantly, the next generation of enthusiastic young regionalists.”
Drawing inspiration from his Economics teacher at Churchie, who encouraged his interest in this discipline, over the past 22 years Colin has contributed to over 1200 local, state and national newspaper articles, written two long term columns in the Townsville Bulletin, appeared in over 2,000 TV news stories and been interviewed on radio over 300 times. Being given the opportunity to analyse, scrutinise and communicate regional issues has been a highlight of his career; a career that started at James Cook University.
Congratulations Colin!
