The annual Churchie Rowathon was held on Saturday at the Graham Fowles Boathouse and was highlighted by a special moment for the rowing community.
After 24 years of service as Churchie’s boatman, Michael “Mick” De Giorgio was honoured with a new Filippi Eight named in his recognition. Mick has supported generations of rowers, sharing in countless Old Boys’ Cup victories and ensuring every boat was ready to perform at its best. Known for his craftsmanship, warmth and dedication, Mick has left a lasting mark on the program and the many boys who passed through the shed.
The Rowathon also saw the 2026 Year 9 boys take part in an ergo challenge and on-water session, while families enjoyed coffee, a barbecue and tours of the shed led by Director of Rowing, Tyson Sholl.
It was a morning that brought the Churchie Rowing community together to celebrate tradition, teamwork and a well-deserved tribute to Mick that will be enjoyed by the 2nd VIII.
