On Saturday 25 October 2025, the Churchie OBA hosted its first-ever Invitational TRL (Touch Rugby League) Tournament, marking an exciting new chapter in our Connect & Play initiative, which is designed to encourage active participation among Old Boys through sport. Held on Churchie’s iconic Main Oval, over 50 players across six teams vied for bragging rights of the inaugural title.

TRL is a dynamic, non-contact version of rugby league that incorporates kicking and structured play-the-balls, making for a faster and smoother alternative to traditional touch formats.

Many exciting and closely fought matches were held throughout the afternoon, culminating in a spirited Grand Final. The standout performance came from the Fathers & Sons team, who claimed victory with a mix of experience, youthful energy and seamless teamwork. Their win embodied the tournament’s ethos of connection across generations.

Spectators and players alike enjoyed the festive atmosphere. Following its successful debut we’re already looking forward to welcoming everyone back in 2026 to do it all again.
