Class of 2000

In 2011, Old Boy Sandy Cavill (2000) graduated from the University of Queensland with a Masters of Architecture. Soon after, in 2013, he established Cavill Architects who practise in a diverse cross-section of project types, including civic, retail, multi-residential and commercial commissions. Since attracting national and international recognition with the delivery of a number of highly-acclaimed projects, Sandy has quickly established a strong reputation within the architecture profession. His work has become a reference point for industry professionals and local authorities. In recognition of this success, Sandy was recently appointed by the Australian Institute of Architects as Co-Chair of Juries for the 2024 Queensland Architecture Awards.

This appointment represents a remarkable achievement for Sandy and is unprecedented for an architect so early in their career. With his insight into best practice and demonstrated design excellence across various building types and scales, Sandy’s experience will be invaluable. His role in the program will see him being responsible for overseeing 20 separate regional juries across the state and visiting over 100 of Queensland's most exemplary education, public, heritage and residential projects.

Congratulations Sandy!
