Some of Churchie’s Year 9 students have the very exciting opportunity to work on a project for the F1 in Schools competition. This is an international youth STEM (Science Technology Engineering Mathematics) competition where students compete to design a model F1 car. Participation in this competition requires significant funding from external sources. The boys are currently searching for likeminded sponsors eager to support youth STEM and will provide suitable return on investment.
We are Velocitas Racing, a dedicated and enthusiastic group of Churchie boys, participating in the global F1 in Schools Competition. We are a 4-member team, composed of a project manager (Charles), graphics designer (Jayden) and engineers (Charlie and Owen). Together, we are committed to pushing the boundaries of engineering and are hoping to be crowned national champions at the 2024 competition in July. Mimicking the world of a Formula 1 team, it revolves around designing and creating the fastest possible miniature F1 car, all whilst documenting our work in an engineering and enterprise portfolio. The cars are powered by carbon dioxide canisters with the potential of reaching 80km/h in 20 metres. The competition helps prepare students for future careers by developing not only youth STEM skills but also business skills faced in the real world.
