CUO Andrew Munro receives his first solo flying badge from
SQNLDR(AAFC) Mark Dorward, EFTS Commanding Officer.
Early last year, the Officer Commanding the Aviation Operations Wing (AOW) of the Australian Air Force Cadets (AAFC) announced the successful Cadets who had been selected to undertake a powered flying training program with the Elementary Flying Training School (EFTS) at Amberley. Among them was Churchie Old Boy CUO Andrew Munro (2022) from No 203 Squadron in East Brisbane. The EFTS has the mission of delivering flying pathways to Cadets through powered flying experiences and training. The program offers opportunities for all Cadets to undertake a Cadet Aviation Experience flight as a passenger and then a Pilot Experience flight with a qualified flying instructor for a hands-on opportunity in flying.
By attending a powered flying course, Andrew underwent flight training according to the CASA Recreational Pilot License (RPL) curriculum. The intention is to see Cadets progress to flying their first solo flight (powered). Andrew has now completed his first solo flight in the Diamond DA40 NG Star aircraft. This accomplishment entitles him to receive and wear the AAFC First Solo Flight (Powered) badge on his AAFC uniform. This is the ultimate aviation training program offered to Cadets and is accredited towards the issue of an eventual pilot license, should they choose to continue training.
We wish Andrew all the very best in his aviation career.
