Dr Peter T. Scott, who attended Churchie for many more years than most, quaintly describes himself as “Not quite an Old Boy”. As Head of Earth Science from 1988 to 2008, he remembers his time at Churchie with great fondness, especially his involvement with T.S. Magnus. Peter also reflects that his teaching of Earth Science was really a part of his character rather than a mere subject choice, as he has continued to explore the Earth (all 6 continents), especially Antarctica and South America. Inspired by a European trip he hand his wife Wendy had enjoyed back in the 90s and funded by prize money he won ($6000) as the Earth Science Teacher of the Year (2008), another trip beckoned with the opportunity to attend conferences on global warming issues at Cambridge and Edinburgh Universities and then to Norway to find out how they buried carbon dioxide below the North Sea. Peter’s wife Wendy, who doesn’t like the cold, was far more at home however when they were paddling a canoe down an offshoot of the Amazon River looking for Spider Monkeys. They became very friendly with a local group of monkeys would visit their hut in the jungle every morning. Both Peter and Wendy have also started writing books. Peter writings initially focused on Earth Science and Environmental Science, including a very large reference book on Earth Science which had 1500 photos taken mostly by himself and 32 video links. He has since branched out into fiction, whilst Wendy has published books on how to study and cook. About twenty books later Peter is still writing with what he describes as “some moderate success”.
