Class of 2000 |
Old Boy Jacob Nash (2000) is a descendant of the Daly River people, west of Darwin, and has spent the last 20 years living, working and creating in Sydney. Regarded by many as one of Australia’s most evocative and in demand designers, after twelve years and more than 20 productions, Jacob has stepped back from his role as Head of Design at Bangarra Dance Theatre. As an integral part of the organisation, whose mission is to create inspiring Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander experiences that promote cultural awareness and understanding, Jake provided his unique vision and creativity to every production. With his dedication to telling important First Nations stories evident through ground-breaking set designs and a 2018 Helpmann Award for Best Scenic Design for Bennelong, Jacob brought national and international recognition to the role. Furthermore, his extraordinary visual sense was fundamental to the artistic success and the distinctive style of the company.
Jacob says: "I had an amazing 12 years at Bangarra Dance Theatre and want to thank this remarkable company for helping shape and support me to become the artist I am today. I have been on some amazing journeys during my time with the company and I am so proud of the stories that we have created and shared with audiences together. I have also collaborated with some of the countries most talented artists and theatre makers along the journey and will always hold those friendships and memories close. This feels like the right time to begin a new adventure."
