Following our recent article about the inaugural Head of the Outback, it seems that over the same weekend rowing was well and truly running through the veins of our Old Boys. As part of the annual Laurie's Love 24-hour Row for a Cause, Old Boy Mark Turner (1985), with his MyFortress team of 12, completed a gruelling 316 kilometres on a rowing machine and in doing so raised nearly $20k. Mark personally rowed 34 kilometres. In total, there were 27 teams across 4 locations with the most being in Laurie’s hometown of Ayr. Just over $200k was raised. Laurie’s Love began when, at 42, Laurence Pavone was diagnosed with an aggressive, inoperable terminal brain tumour, a Glioblastoma Multiforme. He made it his mission over the next 10 months of his life to give back, make a difference and leave a lasting legacy for his young family. Laurence lost his battle in October 2019, but Laurie’s Love was born and it is Laurie’s mission to raise as much money as possible for Brain Cancer research.
